Basically, it’s a Flash application that fetches your friends and followers from Twitter when you click the “Whack!” button, then displays them for you, letting you quickly paginate through them. By default, the list contains all your friends and followers and is sorted by last update, showing those who most recently updated first. You can sort the list alphabetically either ascending or descending by Twitter ID. You can filter the list in several ways: only friends or only followers, all friends or all followers, and mutual friends. |

Google Sorts 1 Petabyte in 6 Hours
Google, the largest search engine in the world, revealed on the 29th of November they managed to move and sort 1 petabyte of data (1024 terabytes) to over 48,000 hard drives in just 6 hours and 2 minutes. Breaking it down, that’s 1 terabyte of data (1024 gigabytes) in 68 seconds, crushing the previous record of 1 terabyte across 910 computers in 209 seconds.
So with so much data being moved, so quickly, there is always a chance of something not going right and in this case, Google was on the ball. They have triple redundancy, keeping the possibility open that something could happen, fortunately, nothing did. Though you may ask, with triple redundancy, would’ve this slowed things down? Not really, since storing may not be part of the sorting algorithm that was recorded (and storing the data could have still been ongoing after the sort had been completed). Though this is purely speculation as we’re unsure of Google’s full play.
Though all this was a milestone for the technology world, demonstrating how effective our technology is becoming and how quick things can be moved with the right hardware and knowledge. Google did push the boundaries for various reasons with the main one being to help further our knowledge to create better systems to make things like these seem small in the future.

Prevent Mobile Phone Spam
Have you ever been disrupted by an unwanted call from a telemarketer when you are watching your favorite TV show or late in the night when you are sleeping?
When yes, you’re not alone.
To stop this your first step is to register your cellular number with the FCC's Do-Not-Call Registry.
When you've registered callers are only allowed to call you when they
- have you prior written permission,
- do not call commercially or do not include unsolicited advertisements,
- have established a business relationship with you.
Consumers may register their residential and cell telephone, by Internet or by telephone for free.
In addition to the Do-Not-Call Registry the caller-id will also reduce the number of telemarketing calls to your phone.
With the caller-id you should know who is is calling you: marketers have to transfer caller-id and do not allowed to block their number.
When you register your phone number with the FCC unsolicited phone calls to your home before 8 am or after 9 pm are not allowed.
Callers have to provide you with these additional information which will also lowered telemarketing calls to your phone:
- A telephone number or address at which you may contact that entity.
- The Caller also must give you the name of the entity on whose behalf the call is being made.
- Anyone making a phone solicitation call to your phone must provide his/her name.
You can register your phone number for free. Your phone number will remain for five years on the national do-not-call list. You may re-enter your number after five years, and you may remove your phone number from the list at any time.
